Dark Blossom

I love flowers, and especially blossoms. Cherry tree blossoms are my absolute favorite so of course I had to do another outfit amongst them! I got so enthusiastic about catching them at peak bloom that we totally missed the creepy man camping at the back of the scene... I later edited him out but regardless it was a lovely afternoon and we had most of the place to ourselves at the Auckland Domain.

Now the dress... I love this dress as it was gifted to me recently, it's from Free People in the U.S, and cost me about $300 NZ... but I reckon it's totally worth it for a killer fit. Plus black goes with everything. You can't beat a little black dress... or a long back dress. Either way, this is an alternate style for spring I love!

Cuppycakes

This month's featured style is Amy Hope from her cupcake business known as "Cuppycakes". It was obvious when I met Amy about her love of life, pink, and all things cupcake related! Amy is a young entrepreneur from West Auckland, NZ with a great wardrobe! When we put together this fashion shoot, I wanted all the images to really show off Amy's beautiful bubbly personality and of course, how naturally stunning she is. This shoot was a piece of cake *no pun intended* ...All clothing and accessories belong to Amy, and we styled her just for her shoot along with four batches of cupcakes she had just lovingly baked herself. The best part was getting an edible sample of these little beauties... Here is a little snippet about Amy's business and how she started it:

"Cuppycakes started in April 2012 in my mum's kitchen, which I always relate to "made with love" home baking - which I always try to incorporate into my cupcakes by my attention to detail, and the amount of time I spend on each cupcake to make sure it is perfect. Eventually, I became obsessed with sprinkles, cupcake swirls, and anything sparkley I could put on them! My love for cupcakes only grew from there, and my best friend encouraged me to make a Facebook page, so all my friends and family could keep up to date with my creations. I began doing orders for friends and family, with word of mouth and the power of Facebook getting around, I began doing orders for the public! My next goal for this year is to start selling Cuppycakes at local markets, and hopefully one day in the future - have my own little store! ♡ " -Amy Hope.

The Blossoms Next Door

I couldn't contain my excitement for this shoot. I had a vision somewhat in my mind of the whole thing as soon as I saw the most amazing white tree just burst into blossom, right beside an urban mall with a carpark! Although an unlikely place I figured that with the right amount of tweaking it could end up looking like a dreamscape. I am really interested in creating extravagant fashion imagery that also documents the many facets of the style I am inspired by... The birdcage is one of my favourite props and you can purchase one yourself from Kmart for only $12 NZ. Pretty sweet deal.

So yes, if you haven't noticed I love pink, pretty things and an overload of cuteness. Sparkle is always a bonus...

Natalie Chan Spring Collection 2013

Natalie Chan is an independent, and very talented New Zealand fashion designer who owns an amazing dreamy boutique in Parnell, Auckland. I was pretty stoked to get invited along to Natalie Chan's VIP party hosted at the Black Door Art Gallery in Parnell, which included all the pieces from her new range of amazing headwear and accessories - inspired by Salvidor Dali, and a bunch of famous people I didn't know. I photographed her new collection below, and some of the photobooth guest photos are here too.

Natalie also had three models demonstrating the outfits, complete from head to toe in Natalie Chan couture. Each ensemble encompassed a different facet of the brand, and that is something I admire so very much about this designer. Her ability to encompass delicate pensive moments in her pieces, cheeky and cute elements, and also strong vibrancy within her designs is why I adore her work.

The sponsored Champagne was pretty awesome, as was the catering by "Little Red" a definite must have for any event. Pictures of all the delectable edibles feature below...

Selling Dreams

The Patch crew and I recently went to see "Selling Dreams" an exhibition of fashion photography through the ages. There was a lot more political emphasis on the works, rather than pure art. However there were some awesome artists to be seen. I couldn't photograph the pieces but I did take some snaps with my Galaxy Note.

Artists of interest were: Lillian Bassman, for designer Omar Kiam and Tim Walker with model Lilly Cole.

The Dorothy Collection Lookbook

This photoshoot was a lot of fun, we shot this at Chris Traill's studio, a well known New Zealand photographer. Shayna Davis was our MUA and hair stylist and Beth Sketcher was our model. We photographed the entire Dorothy Collection along with a few extras that I've made over the past year on The Wardrobe. For more updates see the Facebook page!
